Secrets of The Underwear Drawer - Lesson 1 - The Half-cup Bra

Hi guys,

The Half-cup Bra

What the hell is a Half-cup bra?  Yes, I can hear your very words whizzing out of the speakers (turn your microphone off).

A Half-cup bra (sometimes called a Demi-cup) is actually one of the most popular bra styles available.  Here it is in the flesh, so to speak;

Aubade Bahia Half-cup Bra
This is the Aubade Bahia Half-cup Bra

Aubade Bahia Half-cup Bra
Here it is again, with added distraction
Half-cup?

Imagine the cup is a circle; the full circle would be a full-cup, so this one would look like half a circle.
There is also a 3/4 cup and, wait for it, a 1/4 cup; is the image playing in your head?  Thought so!

Why is this half-cup (1/2 cup) bra so popular?

The answer is pretty simple really, it looks fantastic!  Both from our point of view and that of your partner.  It allows her to wear low-cut tops and dresses whilst staying well supported.  The straps tend to be wider apart, so it also gives the option of wearing tops that have a square-cut neck-line.  One of the main reasons is that it give a very flattering shape to the breast, giving the effect of greater volume.

Without doubt the most important thing is she must have adequate support from a well fitting bra.  If she has never been measured for a bra, then go down to a local lingerie shop (preferably Blush Lingerie in Macclesfield) to be measured by an expert.  Trust me, it makes a whole lot of difference when your girl feels comfortable, supported and happy about her shape.

It is also important to remember that you 'get what you pay for'.  If you buy a cheap t-shirt from the market, it may look good before it's washed, then it could look awful, but it's not the same with a cheap bra; it will indeed look awful, but also, it won't support her properly and even worse than that it could injure her.

The Pay-off

Take a look at the half-cup bras on Blush Lingerie's site, brush up on your powers of recognition, then next time you go into a lingerie shop you can casually say, "that's a very stylish half-cup bra" and how impressed will she be with you then?

When is lingerie, underwear?

Hi All,

When is lingerie underwear?  As a mere mortal man, how do I know?

Years ago I used to laugh and say that the only difference was at the till, but that was me being cynical :)

As the years have passed and I have been indoctrinated into the mystical under(wear)world of ladies lingerie, I have come to understand that there is indeed a difference.

When a woman buys an everyday bra to go under her work clothes, she is buying underwear.

A bra, or chemise etc... bought to go under a dress, or for that special night in, is lingerie.

A bra that is purchased for under a wedding dress, teamed up with matching brief, suspender belt and stockings, is bridal lingerie.  Lingerie will make her feel special, that's why lingerie makes such a great gift.

It's all linked to functionality, that's why women have sports underwear and not sports lingerie.

Now to clarify; Diki, as shown below, is most definitely lingerie

Kiss Me Deadly, as shown below, is also most definitely lingerie

Marie Jo Intense, is sports underwear (but very, very stylish :)

As our furry little friend on TV says, "simples!"

Have You Got It Right This Christmas?

Hi everybody,

There are now a great number of men, sat worrying if they have bought the right present for their other half this Christmas.  Then there are the men who have bought lingerie from Blush; safe in the knowledge that if the very worst happened and they got the sizes wrong, then it can be easily exchanged for the correct size with no problems.

This is why Blush has built such a strong reputation when it comes to helping male customers.  Rest assured that even if the size is wrong, she will still love the fact that you bought her something wonderful from Blush Lingerie.

Ladies, if your man presents you with a set of kitchen knives this year, do yourself a favour and show him the Blush Lingerie website.

Guys, if you bought the knives, then shame on you; you are destined for a long, cold winter.

Have a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year

Retro Lingerie - It's New!???

I must admit that I was confused by the whole retro/vintage thing; what's the difference?

Well, as I found out there is a big difference

Retro Lingerie - This is new lingerie based on an old style.

Vintage Lingerie - Is the old girdle that your grandmother had, which is now being sold for an obscene amount!

But what makes it vintage? My mum used to say "that's an antique" every time she spoke about the record player that was 12 years old.

You see, an item passes through several phases in it's life:
  • Modern - Slap-bang up-to-date!
  • Old fashioned - Out of style with it's modern surroundings
  • Vintage - 25 years +
  • Antique - 50 years +
Retro can, of course, apply to any of these (except the modern ;)

Retro underwear, vintage style lingerie, or however you want to class it, is going to be very big next season.

Should you buy it?

The short answer is - Do you like it?
If you do, then "fill your boots!"

Check out Blush's New Retro Lingerie department; I think you might like it.

Enjoy!

Style, Class & All Stops In between!

Hi all,

Picture this scenario: I arrive home one Saturday evening, with a small brown paper bag clutched in my eager little hands.

"Well, dear, you will never guess what stunning lingerie I found for you today. I bought it from that nice chap on the market. He said they were very slight seconds, but if you were careful then the stitching should hold for ages."

I then produce a pair of red undies from the bag; the cheapest red in history!

The hours pass by & eventually I regain consciousness - the doctor says that I should be back on my feet in a week or two...

Nope! I always had the good sense to avoid such things; even when I was very young! Yet these things do not come easy to a man. There but for the grace of God, (I think is the correct term).

So what is style, class & sexiness?

It's a look, a sound, a movement. It's an image, a hint, a gesture. It's hard to describe that's for sure! But let's look deeper...

Q. Who has style?
A. Angelina Jolie!
But as Lara Croft, t-shirt & shorts are not stylish?

Q. Who has Class?
A. Helena Bonham Carter!
So what about Planet of the Apes?

Q. Who is sexy?
A. Helen Mirren!
Even when she played the Queen?

Even the classiest, sexiest woman can look drab (Lara Croft an exception).

Style in lingerie is as diverse as the women that wear it. Choose something for your partner; this maybe based on a photo you've seen somewhere, but stay realistic; what suits Britney may not suit your slightly more ample spouse.

This wonderfully stylish set is from Prima Donna Lingerie

Choose colour wisely, does she have a colour that everyone says really suits her? As a general rule avoid green underwear (unless it's her favourite). Black is a safe colour & very stylish.

Pick a style that flatters her build & shape - If she is a 32AAA then buying a quarter-cup bra is just not going to work. However, if you buy her a silk cami-top, or silk & lace chemise then you're cooking!

Tal, talk, talking - yes sometimes it doesn't come easy! Talk to her (no, not in the middle of Tesco) Does she have a particular item that she has always wanted. Ask her what she thinks makes stylish, classy underwear. It may be a matching bra, brief & suspender set, nightdress & negligee, or maybe a simple black thong.

Discover her style, buy her classy underwear that suits her & what results is a confident, sexy woman.

Enjoy!

Blush Lingerie - sexy lingerie

Intro

Hi all,

My name's Dave. I've been involved in lingerie for over ten years now; no, not like that; my wife owns Blush Lingerie. It's been an exciting time, but I'm always trapped in the back room of the shop; working on databases or updating the website, I never get chance to speak to customers (probably for the best really).

Over the past two years I have written a series of articles designed to help men buy lingerie for their partners. There's no secret to getting it right, but a little guidance is a great help ;)

This Blog is a shorter, more personal version of those articles, kept right up-to-date as new stuff comes out, or if some poor guy needs help in telling a thong from a rio.

Girls if you stumble upon this Blog, then get your guy to read it; it could just open up a whole new wardrobe for you.

Read & enjoy!

Dave
